Under the direction of the CIO, and working closely with other IT and Academic leaders, the Associate CIO for Research IT is a key leadership role responsible for providing research information technology services to Missouri University of Science and Technology.

Responsible for leading the S&T IT Research Support Solutions team in the identification, procurement, implementation, maintenance, configuration, and customization of research-focused technology services including high-performance computing, networking, data storage, cloud services, information security, and leading-edge research technologies.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Advance, facilitate and maintain research technology including high performance computing, data repositories, information security, cloud services, and networking to serve the needs of university faculty, researchers and students
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and trends, and develop strategies for implementation
  • Guide Research IT efforts according to the University's strategic vision and direction
  • Develop and communicate research technology strategies, roadmaps, and operational/tactical plans that are in line with the University's overall mission and research goals
  • Supervise and support staff, external vendors, and project teams
  • Determine staffing needs, perform hiring activities, identify space requirements, and devise staffing plans based on budgetary constraints, goals, and objectives
  • Develop metrics and implement data-informed decision-making processes
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with the Research & Innovations, Office of Sponsored Programs, research centers, as well as academic units to ensure that researchers and students have access to the necessary tools and infrastructure
  • Implement creative solutions to streamline support processes
  • Regularly communicate and collaborate with University and Information Technology leadership about plans, budgets, issues, concerns, and projects
  • Develop and communicate research technology strategic, operational, and tactical plans with colleagues and constituents
  • Maintain an appropriate network of professional contacts
  • Attend and participate in leading regional and national conferences
  • Maintains an active professional profile by writing scholarly papers and making presentations
  • Write or collaborate on proposals and plans to secure extra-mural funding from grants and other sources
Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field-or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired. Seven or more years of senior managerial experience is required.
  • Able to secure a secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven skills in multiple project managements and successful history in planning, implementing and maintaining systems in a complex environment is required.
  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Business Administration is preferred.
  • Experience in building a research computing environment that supports Confidential Unclassified Information (CUI) as well as secret research
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
