The NC State Veterinary Hospital is an integrated health care center for companion, equine and farm animals. Essential Job Duties |
Clinical duties: Major clinical responsibilities include providing high-end reproductive medicine care for both equine and canine patients, supporting the theriogenology service, providing excellent service to referring veterinarians and clients, and providing outstanding house officer support. Emergency and weekend on-call duty will be expected during clinical rotations, with holiday coverage shared evenly among clinicians on the theriogenology service. The person in this position would also be expected to provide consultations for in-house services and referring veterinarians and to develop a collegial relationship with other services within the hospital and with the local referring veterinarian population. The caseload of the theriogenology service is split between both equine and canine patients and typical services provided include breeding management, assisted reproductive techniques (transcervical insemination in the dog and embryo transfer in the mare), stud dog and stallion collection and cryopreservation, high-risk pregnancy management, and obstetrics.
Teaching: The person in this position would be expected to teach fourth-year veterinary students and house officers in the clinical setting, which may include active learning on cases, small group rounds discussions. This person would attend and contribute to student rounds preparation and participate in regular equine section faculty meetings.
University/Community Outreach: The person in this position would be expected to
develop positive relationships with veterinarians in the field to encourage the growth of the service and caseload. The person in this position will be expected to perform clinical duties as described for 39 weeks per year. While performing these duties, the candidate's primary responsibility will be receiving both canine and equine outpatients, taking referrals, providing consults to internal services and outside veterinarians, and receiving emergencies during the hours that the service is functioning. |

DVM (or equivalent degree) and eligibility for veterinary licensure (or faculty licensure) in the State of NC
