The Chemistry Department is a community of faculty, staff and students dedicated to excellence in education, the engagement of students and faculty in collaborative research at the cutting edge of science, and the sharing of expertise and knowledge to enrich the local, regional, and global communities.

The Chemistry Department offers a BA in Chemistry, a BS in Chemistry ( ACS Certified), a BS in Chemistry with Biochemistry Option ( ACS Certified), a research-based MS in Chemistry, and is a lead department for the PhD in Chemistry and Nanoscale Science.

Description of Work

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte recognizes the differentiation of mission, goals, and objectives inherent in the diversity of disciplines represented by its colleges and departments. Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include teaching introductory chemistry courses, with the option of teaching upper-level courses (depending on the candidate's interests and the department's needs); and service responsibilities, such as support for departmental curriculum / pedagogy development and serving on department and university committees. Additional duties could include serving as the coordinator of introductory laboratories or courses.
Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
Experience in assessing or researching postsecondary pedagogical practices is preferred. We especially welcome applicants from candidates with experience and interest in utilizing evidence-based scientific teaching and learning practices to foster student success in general education and introductory chemistry courses.
