LSSI is hiring a full-timeChild Welfare Assistant. Under the general supervision of the Program Director, supervisor, or designee, the prospective child welfare assistant/case aide provides supportive interventions and activities to individuals and families within the mandates of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois policies, and Council on Accreditation standards.
Schedule: Monday 12pm- 8pm, Tuesday 9am-5pm, Wednesday 10am-6pm, Thursday 12pm-8pm, Friday 9am-5pm

Essential Functions:
  • Provision of direct services to children and families to support the work of assigned child welfare specialists to facilitate timely permanency outcomes for children with their family of origin, extended family, or foster/adoptive family according to the policies and practices of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, and the Council on Accreditation.
  • In-person contact with children, biological parents, and foster/relative care providers as required.
  • Monitoring and supervision of parent-child visitation to ensure the safety and well-being of children during these encounters, as required.
  • Transportation of clients, as required.
  • Communication with supervisor, assigned child welfare specialist, and collateral providers regarding interactions with children and families and their ongoing status.
  • Completion and submission in a timely manner of all required contact notes, visitation monitoring reports, and other required documentation.
  • Participation in regularly established supervisory process for guidance, direction, support and approval of interactions/interventions with clients.
  • Participation in the organization's Continuous Quality Improvement process to refine practice and achieve identified outcomes identified by the organization's CQI process and the Federal Child and Family Services Review.
  • Performance of other related tasks as necessary or assigned.
  • Flexible work schedule to include evening and weekend hours as needed.
Position Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED (AA degree preferred).
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Basic understanding of child development and parenting, or equivalent life experience.
  • Basic understanding of strengths-based, trauma informed interaction with clients.
  • Submit to fingerprinting and pass required background checks, including CANTS, LEADS, Sexual Abuse Registry, Illinois State Police, and FBI.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences within the diverse client base served by the organization, as well as within the organization itself.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license and proof of automobile liability insurance and access to transportation to make home visits, other required appointments, and transport clients.
