Environmental Scientist

S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate environmental professional seeking to grow their career as an Environmental Scientist to join our Environmental team in Raleigh, North Carolina. Are you ready to contribute your education and knowledge to meaningful projects? Join us at S&ME!

As an Environmental Scientist, you will work under the direction of a project manager to perform both office and field work related to environmental assessments, compliance, and permitting projects. Additionally, you will support our industrial hygiene team in various capacities.

Your Day-to-Day:



  • Conduct Environmental Assessments: Perform fieldwork and reporting for environmental assessments, including Phase I and Phase II ESAs and Brownfields assessments.
  • Oversee Installations and Sampling: Oversee soil borings, monitoring wells, and vapor point installations; collect and analyze groundwater, vapor, and soil/sediment samples.
  • Industrial Hygiene Assessments: Perform fieldwork, assessments, and reporting for industrial hygiene contaminants and hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead-based paint, mold, PCBs, mercury, and indoor air quality.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Monitor compliance through stormwater sampling and underground storage tank (UST) assessments and investigations.
  • Data Recording and Reporting: Record and interpret data, compare results to regulations, and prepare standard environmental reports.



What You Bring:



  • A Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, geology, chemistry or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in a related field
  • Basic technical writing skills at the college level
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training



Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:



  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
