Your Role With Us:

NCU is a proud recipient of the Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center (PSC) Certification and Joint Commission Spine Center of Excellence Certification. Staff work very closely with our Stroke Navigator and Spine Center Navigator, as well as neurologists and neurosurgeons to provide the best-possible outcome for each patient.

NCU is an Intermediate Medical & Surgical Telemetry level of care unit that serves patients who suffer from a wide variety of brain or nervous system disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, brain tumors, traumatic brain injuries, multi-system trauma, meningitis, encephalitis, strokes, and spinal injuries. NCU staff receive specialized training in NIHS assessment, swallow screen evaluation, and spinal immobilization. Many also earn National certification in critical care and/or neurological nursing. NCU prides itself on providing an outstanding patient experience and been recognized as a Top 10 in Patient Satisfaction.

Salem Health's "Care in Place" model, provides nurses with the opportunity to treat patients throughout the continuum of their stay. Patients will remain on NCU to promote continuity of care and allow nurses to see the reward of patient healing. With a strong team culture, opportunities exist for nurses to obtain skills working with a variety of diagnoses and form relationships with patients who remain in one unit from admission to discharge.

    Background/Expertise:

    • Applicants must be able to begin by the February 2025 cohort.
    • Requires BSN or non-nursing Bachelor's Degree with MSN. Bachelor of Arts in nursing also accepted. Candidates with an Associate's degree in nursing (ADN) also encouraged to apply. *Agreement to complete BSN within three (3) years of hire required.
      • Less than one (1) year of nursing experience required.
      • Unencumbered licensure to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon required one week prior to hire date.
      • BLS required.
