Position Highlights The University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine (UA-CVM) invites applications for a faculty position with a focus on veterinary anatomic pathology. The successful candidate's primary responsibility will be teaching anatomic pathology within both the pre-clinical and clinical curricula at the UA-CVM. Some diagnostic service duties at the Arizona Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) will be included as they relate to clinical year teaching (necropsy).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Partner with faculty and staff from the UA-CVM and VDL in the development, delivery, and refinement of the diagnostic pathology rotation (including necropsy) for students within the clinical year of the veterinary medical doctorate curriculum.
  • Conduct gross necropsy examination and histologic evaluation of deceased animals to determine the cause of death or disease.
  • Interpret the results of necropsy examinations with other laboratory results.
  • Report necropsy findings to laboratory clients verbally and/or in writing.
  • Collaborate with UA-CVM faculty leading organ-system block courses to ensure integration of general and anatomic pathology across the continuum of the program, and deliver curriculum content to veterinary students within the CVM vision of inclusive, evidence-based Team-Based Learning and Peer Instruction pedagogy.
  • Contribute to student learning by leveraging anatomic pathology experiences to support the development and implementation of creative opportunities for student engagement and learning.
  • Be accessible to diverse cohorts of veterinary students for office hours and scheduled meetings to assist students with learning.
  • Engage in ongoing assessment and professional development, and participate in programs and professional organizations to facilitate innovation and application subject matter expertise using best learning practices.
  • Engage in the CVM collegial community, the University community, and the larger global academic community through participation in shared governance, advisory committees, and academic/professional society meetings.
  • Additional diagnostic service duties at the VDL, including additional necropsy and/or surgical pathology duty, may be assigned as time and interest allow.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • DVM/VMD degree (or international equivalent).
  • Advanced training in veterinary anatomic pathology.
  • Eligible for ACVP or ECVP board certification in veterinary anatomic pathology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in teaching a diverse range of students (undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional) using active learning techniques.
  • Board certification in veterinary anatomic pathology (ACVP or ECVP).
  • Prior experience (post-education/training) in diagnostic pathology.
