Teacher Candidate Coach

The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Leading in the School of Education is looking to hire a part-time Teacher Candidate Coach (TCC). The position reports to the TCC coordinator and the TLL department chair.

The teacher candidate coach serves as a vital link between the university and cooperating schools. Professional responsibilities of a part-time coach include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Attend training and regular TCC team meetings
  • Know University policies, procedures, and requirements to all personnel involved in the clinical experience as spelled out in the Teacher Education Handbook
  • Know the standards (criteria established by the program and by PDE) to be used in assessing candidates' teaching performance.
  • Conduct the periodically scheduled evaluations of candidates - program midterm and final evaluations and the Pennsylvania Department of Education-430 (formative and summative).
  • Observe candidates' teaching. Formal and informal data should be recorded on standard observation forms. When candidates need additional support, the teacher candidate coach is to provide more support in and out of the classroom with observations, conferences, etc.
  • Confer with candidates following each observation. Share the data with candidates and the mentor.

All work will be done in person and during school hours. Hiring is on a single-semester basis. Pay is dependent upon the number of candidates who are supervised.


Requirements:

  • Must have availability to work in the field regularly during school hours
  • Master's degree in education-related field
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning process as evidenced by educational program or experience teaching
  • Demonstrated expertise in the area of education or related field
  • Currently holds or has held a teaching certificate in the content area(s) where supervision is occurring
  • Three years of teaching experience (minimum) in the content area(s) where supervision is occurring

Highly desired:

  • Instructional coach certification or principal certification
  • Substantial teaching experience in K-12 US classroom settings
  • Terminal degree in field of education
  • Experience teaching teacher preparation courses in higher education
