Location: Chicago, IL Part time, 15 weekly hours Hours: Monday-Friday & rotating weekends, 7am-1pm based on client availability Required Travel: None
A Brief Summary: To provide Life Center and community members with a one-on-one or small-group educational exercise experience. This experience includes fitness and postural assessment, program design, and mindful supervision and motivation. The exercise programs designed are well balanced and appropriate for the individual's specific needs, goals, lifestyle and limitations. Responsibilities: Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Galter Life Center, demonstrates a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the Life Center. 1. Provide a safe, effective and personalized fitness experience for each client
Assess the clients' current fitness status Determine clear, measurable and realistic goals agreeable to both trainer and client Design and implement an exercise program considering the basic physiological components of fitness according to ACSM guidelines
2. Adapt programs as necessitated by changes in client fitness level, health status, goals or preferences
Track client participation and fitness progress Keep detailed and thorough notes on client response to exercise, health changes, and reports from other health care professionals, etc. Perform fitness reassessments according to schedule
3. Perform administrative tasks with accuracy and efficiency
Schedule client sessions, reserve assessment room as needed, arrange for timely payments and maintain accurate session records. Reconcile any discrepancies promptly. Maintain proper records and reports, keeping them on-site in appropriate storage areas Attend regular staff meetings and in-services
4. Uphold professional standards of performance
Build positive relationship with clients, maintaining professional boundaries Always wear personal training uniform during sessions Follow established standards of performance and exercise protocols Maintain national personal training certification and attend continuing education seminars to maintain current knowledge in the health and fitness field
5. Assume other duties related to the personal training program as need dictates
Provide lectures and seminars for the LifeCenter and the community as needed Instruct general members/guests in safe, beneficial ways to exercise and use fitness equipment, offering assistance whenever in the facility (even if off-duty). Serve in Fitness Specialist role when scheduled (required at start of position)
6. Other Responsibilities
Attain a working knowledge of LifeCenter programs and services Know, follow and perform emergency procedures when necessary
What you will need:
B.S. or higher degree in a fitness-related field is preferred but not required 2 years' experience as well as a nationally-recognized, accredited personal training certification. Excellent interpersonal skills, general knowledge of exercise and exercise contraindications, knowledge of proper use of exercise equipment and ACSM guidelines. Must be passionate about health, fitness and wellness. Current personal training certification from nationally-recognized, accredited organization required CPR/AED Certification
