Financial Analyst
Job Summary The ZSFG Division of the UCSF Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences seeks a Financial Analyst (FA) to support the division's Senior Financial Analyst in managing an ~$25M portfolio of clinical and education funding from multiple internal and external sources including but not limited to the ZSFG affiliation agreement, professional fees, gifts, discretionary funds, and contracts and grants.
The FA completes monthly budget status reports for ~30-40 funds (~$10M) to review revenue and expenses; identify, research, and correct errors; research and address potential compliance issues; and identify and proactively manage financial risks. They prepare General Ledger journals and UC Path funding entries and calculate and process faculty moonlighting payments. The FA supports the Senior Finance Analyst and Senior Director Finance and Administration by providing analytical support for complex budget, financial, or resource analysis projects including assisting in developing and updating the division's annual consolidated budget. The FA also supports the division's Billing Manager in billing for professional fees and identifies opportunities to increase revenue generation.
This person uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures and resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. They work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors and demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. The FA collaborates effectively with various internal and external partners including PIs, funders, and other UCSF departments.
This position reports to the division's Senior Financial Analyst for clinical and education funding and may directly support the Senior Director of Finance and Administration on special projects. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $85,700 - $128,600 (Annual Rate). Department Description The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, & Reproductive Sciences (ObGyn & RS) is a major academic department in the School of Medicine committed to providing quality health care services, educating health care providers and investigators, and conducting research to advance knowledge in our field. The Department is nationally recognized for research and training in women's health care specialties. This position is based at the Department's San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) Division, a large teaching, research, and clinical site. The SFGH Division of Ob-Gyn & RS is home to ~40 faculty, 8 non-faculty academics, and 110 staff; fellows, residents, and other trainees; and the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in any area and / or equivalent experience / training
- 3 + years related experience in financial analysis and/or financial services such as reporting, budgeting, purchasing, billing post-award management or related
- Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems such as PeopleSoft, Plus, MyReports, UC Path, BearBuy, or related programs or ability to learn them quickly
- Ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial
- analysis assignments
- Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and
- concise manner
- Proven ability to use Excel spreadsheet software for complex financial analysis, fiscal
- management, and financial reports.
- Proven ability to interact effectively with diverse constituencies
- Ability to function as a member of a team. Exceptional customer service skills.
- Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Proven ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise strong judgment in decision making
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources
- 5+ years related experience in financial analysis and/or financial services such as reporting, budgeting, purchasing, billing, post-award management or related
