Job Purpose

Certification Department Manager oversees all Honda activities related to emissions & fuel economy certification for all product lines by ensuring compliance with all such current government regulation requirements and works with key stakeholders to determine future compliance strategies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Resource and project management, coaching, supervision, fostering teamwork.
  • Financial management, responsible for fiscal year operation forecast/budget. Prepare Cost of Sales chargebacks.
  • Oversee the process of obtaining government agency approvals required for on time sales & distribution of Honda products in the US.
  • Oversee the quality and timeliness of all government certification reporting requirements.
  • Direct and face-to-face negotiations with government (state and federal) agencies to mitigate certification/compliance issues and minimize business impact.
  • Cross-divisional coordination to plan and ensure product compliance with new government regulations.
  • Quality management of certification and compliance processes. Create/maintain QS/SOP for as necessary; lead continuous improvement efforts. Oversees PDCAs for recurrence prevention.
  • Represent Honda at trade associations and technical committees to protect Honda's interest (e.g. SAE, Global Automakers, MIC, OPEI, NMMA, EMA).

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Minimum 10 years working in an engineering or technical environment
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines and emission control systems
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Project management skills. Problem solving/analysis skills.
  • Experience with government regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal & supervisory skills
  • Knowledge of Honda products and Honda policies
