Are you passionate about Safety and Environmental Services? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Safety and Environmental department. As a Environmental & Sustainability Engineer, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

The Environmental & Sustainability Engineer at S&C Electric Company will lead initiatives in waste management, recycling, decarbonization, and/or employee engagement to achieve the company's sustainability goals. Key responsibilities include enhancing recycling programs, executing decarbonization projects, driving circularity initiatives, supporting data management, managing daily operations, improving processes, and engaging employees in sustainability efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Enhance Recycling Programs: Develop and implement strategies to improve recycling initiatives across all S&C facilities, finding innovative ways to reduce waste generation
• Execute Decarbonization Projects: Develop and implement strategies to reduce S&C's carbon footprint, aligning project plans with our net zero target including scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions
• Drive Circularity Initiatives: Innovate and implement circularity projects with a focus on creating new KPIs and guidelines to integrate sustainability across the business
• Support Data Management: Assist in collecting and analyzing data for annual compliance and sustainability reports, ensuring progress towards achieving S&C's corporate goals
• Manage Daily Operations: Support daily production operations to ensure compliance and efficiency with environmental & sustainability practices
• Improve Processes: Identify and implement enhancements in environmental and sustainability processes, including ISO 14001
• Engage Employees: Actively network cross functionally and organize and lead sustainability events and training sessions to promote a culture of environmental stewardship

Additional Functions:

• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Attend in-person or virtual meetings as requested or required.
• Communicate effectively and respectfully with others.
• Assist with general administrative tasks as needed.
• Participate in company-wide events and initiatives.
• Support other departments with environmental and sustainability-related inquiries.
• Stay updated with industry trends and best practices.

What you'll Need To Succeed:

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
• 1-2+ years of experience in sustainability or environmental engineering
• Ability to engage and motivate team members at all levels
• The ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences, including internal and external stakeholder
• Strong analytical skills

Preferred

• Experience in sustainability data tracking and reporting
• Environmental and/or Sustainability certifications such as Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Certified Sustainability Professional (CSP), Greenhouse Gas Inventory Quantified (GHG-IG), etc.
• Knowledge of RCRA, DOT, and Hazmat regulations and industrial waste management practices

Physical Requirements:

Sitting Frequently required to remain in a stationary position and perform desk-based tasks for hours at a time.

Walking Frequently required to walk moderate distances across the S&C campus.

Manual Dexterity Occasionally required to use hand-eye coordination to control both hands and arms for a full range of motion to operate equipment/machinery/power tools/office productivity equipment.

Ascending / Descending Occasionally ascending or descending ladders/stairs/scaffolding/ramps/poles.

Observation / Eyesight Frequently required to observe details at close range including depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to differentiate between colors

Communication Continuously required to talk and hear, in person and by phone/conference calls

Travel Occasionally required to travel (up to 5-10%) and work extended hours when necessary. Required to travel overnight. Required to travel internationally.

Environmental and Hazardous Conditions

• Continuously working indoors/outdoors in an air-conditioned office/manufacturing based environment.
• Infrequently exposed to fumes/vapors/dust/gases/odors/mist/toxic chemicals/radiation/vibration/grease/oils/radiation/lasers/other etc.
• Occasionally exposed to low/moderate/high noise levels including machinery/vehicles/forklifts/office equipment/office traffic etc.
• Occasionally working around energized equipment with the risk of electrocution/scalding/burns/other etc.
• Infrequently exposed to wet humid/outdoor weather/extreme cold (non-weather)/extreme heat (non-weather) conditions/other etc.
• Infrequently working with machinery with moving parts/vehicles/forklifts/heavy machinery/sharp objects/other etc.
