Position description

The University of California (UC), Davis, School of Medicine, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine seeks to hire a full-time clinical faculty at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Clinical X (clinician-investigator) or Health Science Clinical Professor (clinician-educator) series. This position includes clinical responsibilities in Transfusion Medicine (blood banking, apheresis, cellular therapies) for adult and pediatric patients as well as responsibilities in quality improvement/assurance and laboratory management. Coverage of the special coagulation laboratory will also be assigned.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Collaborative participation in research or other creative activities that support the department's research mission is required.

  • Teaching is required and may include clinical, didactic, multi-disciplinary conferences, and small group teaching of residents, medical students, clinical laboratory science students, and practicing physicians.
  • An MD, MD/PhD or DO is required.

  • Must be board-certified by the American Board of Pathology in AP/CP or CP or certified by another ABMS board deemed eligible for transfusion medicine
  • Experience in teaching and clinical service is required in one or more of the following areas: Stem cell and mononuclear cell collections by apheresis (autologous and allogeneic), special coagulation, therapeutic apheresis, blood bank services, quality programs, and utilization management.

  • The candidate must meet requirements for appointment as Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in one of the University of California's clinically intensive academic series [Clinical (X) or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series].
  • A California professional license or eligibility for licensure in California is required.


Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

  • Must be board-certified, or board-eligible, in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, and qualified or eligible for the American Society of Clinical Pathology's Qualification in Apheresis.
  • The successful candidate must have the ability to maintain a high level of service, work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, and exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others.

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

  • Training or experience in utilization management, and/or medical informatics is preferred but not required.
