Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Director of Faculty Development works with the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Faculty Affairs to identify, develop, implement, and assess professional development and engagement programs for faculty. The director works with faculty at all stages of career development to support faculty in their journey to excellence at UNCW.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Must be a tenured member of the UNCW faculty at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor
  • Administrative experience as department chair/school director or similar role with experience in managing a budget and supervising personnel
  • Experience designing, facilitating, and evaluating programs and opportunities for career development
  • Experience collaborating with shared governance structures such as Faculty Senate, Chairs and Directors Council, or similar
  • Outstanding communication skills and demonstrated diplomacy in communication to a wide range of audiences
  • Experience in campus-wide leadership roles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current issues and trends in higher education

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • At least 7 years of experience as a tenured faculty member
  • At least 5 years of experience providing faculty professional development programming and/or mentoring opportunities

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
This position serves the functional unit of Undergraduate Education and Faculty Affairs ( UEFA). Undergraduate Education works through various units to enhance the undergraduate educational experience and provide high-impact practices. It is comprised of the Honors Scholars College, the Center for the Support of Undergraduate Research and Fellowship ( CSURF), Community-based Learning and Scholarship, University Studies and assessment, and production of the undergraduate catalog. This unit oversees new undergraduate program development and the university's QEP.
The Office of Faculty Affairs ( OFA) is comprised of two units: Faculty Administration and Faculty Development. The Director of Faculty Development engages faculty in all stages of their career, from hire to retirement. The director works directly with faculty to coordinate and deliver professional development (including new faculty orientation), career advancement (including working with RTP and PTR), and leadership development (including meeting Chairs and Directors and other university leaders).
