The Underwriting Consultant is responsible for underwriting, pricing and processing accounts in accordance with established underwriting and service standards while following guidelines and authority limits.

This includes analyzing benefit plan characteristics through case risk evaluation, product pricing and making appropriate risk decisions on new and renewal business. The Underwriting Consultant is responsible for preparing, delivering proposals, and negotiating solutions.

This role is part of the Global Solutions Underwriting team. The Global Solutions team is responsible for a suite of employee benefit plans for Expatriates (Expats), Inpatriates (Inpats), Third Country Nationals (TCNs), and in some instances Key Local Nationals (KLNs).

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Evaluate, recommend and negotiate pricing as well as provide potential alternatives and options for NB and Renewal groups
  • Acts as a partner in strategy planning directly with sales and client managers
  • Effectively communicate pricing recommendations and financial position with internal and external constituents
  • Anticipates customer needs and proactively develops solutions
  • Conduct competitive analysis of all coverage lines and present financial and contractual findings to Management
  • Serves as a key resource on complex and/or critical issues
  • Provides recommendations for process improvement
  • Forecasts and plans resource requirements to meet deliverables
  • Follows established delegation of authority
  • May lead functional or segment teams or projects
  • Motivates and inspires other team members
  • Reviews the work of others
  • Develops innovative approaches
  • Serves as a leader/ mentor

Required Qualifications:



  • 3+ years of experience in the healthcare industry underwriting/managing financials for a defined book of business for any variety of products: PPO, HMO, Stop Loss, Pharmacy, Dental, Vision, Ancillary, Self-Funded, ASO/Fully Insured for group or individual clients
  • 3+ years of experience with Risk Management
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Office suite (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint)



Preferred Qualifications:



  • 3+ years of data analysis and reporting experience
  • 3+ years of presentation experience
  • Understanding of Expatriate/Global Insurance
  • Ability to understand and calculate revenue, expense, risk and profit

Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $70,200 to $137,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
