Description
West Virginia University Division for Land-Grant Engagement is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Energy Express Site Coordinator (Multiple Openings). The Energy Express Site Coordinator will:
- Be an active participant in the in-person site leadership training April 5 - 6, 2025. Site Coordinators with one to three years of experience must attend both days, April 5th and 6th, while all other site coordinators are required to attend on April 6th.
- Serve as site coordinator from June 3- July 28, 2025, with no absences unless approved by the Energy Express state office.
- Complete a minimum of six hours a day on site, typically 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., with the site team and a minimum of 300 hours from June 3, 2025, through July 28, 2025.
- When Title I funds are used, provide direct reading instruction in comprehension and vocabulary skills to a group of students daily on a rotational basis if an additional highly qualified teacher by the BOE is not hired.
- Provide training for AmeriCorps team members and participate in all activities at statewide team training including the National Service swearing-in ceremony, June 3- July 28, 2025, in Morgantown, WV.
- Supervise and train AmeriCorps members beginning June 3 through July 28, 2025, including some evenings and weekends. Site Coordinators must supervise and train AmeriCorps members at least 8 hours the weekend of June 7 - 8, 2025 or June 14 - 15, 2025.
- Set an overall positive and productive tone for the program, staying focused and committed to the program's goals, philosophy, and model.
- Facilitate daily team meetings and training as needed throughout the program.
- Collaboratively plan, model, and supervise in the delivery of reading activities and teaching strategies for the AmeriCorps mentors.
- Supervise AmeriCorps members as they connect family members and the community to children's learning by recruiting, training and supervising volunteers.
- Supervise AmeriCorps members as they connect the site to the community through public relations efforts, including working with the media.
- Facilitate team reflection at least twice a week.
- Evaluate the performance of AmeriCorps members at least twice during the program.
- Work with county Extension agent or Energy Express County contact to:
- Support site team in their group AmeriCorps community service project.
- Promote AmeriCorps national identity.
- Ensure media involvement at the site.
- Plan and implement a site open house, preferably in the fifth week of the program.
- Support AmeriCorps members in conducting family calls before the program starts and maintaining weekly contact with families.
- Provide a welcoming atmosphere, support, and recognition for AmeriCorps members, volunteers, visitors, parents, and children.
- Maintain a sense of teamwork and cooperation among all those involved in the program.
- Maintain open and honest communication with all those involved in the program.
- Assume responsibility for facility and equipment and be present when the facility is in use by Energy Express. Ensure that the facility is left in good condition when the program is over.
- Assume responsibility for materials and supplies. Supervise AmeriCorps members and volunteers in completing a supply inventory and packing supplies and resource materials when the program is finished.
- Use technology for communication and submission of data.
- Maintain children's records, assist with evaluation, and complete required reports and forms by established deadlines.
- Provide county contact with a copy of all paperwork submitted to state Energy Express office.
- Be aware of AmeriCorps policies and procedures so that Energy Express remains in compliance with the federal grant.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Salary:
- $9,000.00 (June 3- July 28, 2025) for 300 hours)
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree awarded prior to June 3, 2025, or a combination of education and experience (High School Diploma or GED and four years of full-time directly related experience at a commensurate level or associate degree and two years of full-time directly related experience at a commensurate level). Teacher Certification preferred.
- Energy Express experience as a site coordinator or AmeriCorps member preferred.
- Preferred has weight in the screening process, but not in the interviewing and final selection process.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to maintain commitment to the goals, philosophy and model of Energy Express.
- Knowledge of children's reading and children's literature.
- Ability to supervise and hold accountable 5-9 college students serving as AmeriCorps Members and support them in meeting program objectives.
- Ability to train AmeriCorps Members as needed in the components of the Energy Express model which includes reading, writing, drama, art, team building activities and guidance.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with young adults.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with family members of Energy Express children.
- Ability to help AmeriCorps Members reflect on service experiences.
- Ability to serve as a positive role model for AmeriCorps Members, volunteers and children.
- Ability to develop rapport with the community.
- Ability to use technology including email, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and basic computer skills for communication and submission of data.

- Previous experience in Energy Express does not guarantee selection for the current year. Performance assessments from those applicants with previous Energy Express experience will be taken into consideration.
- No professional contract that overlaps Energy Express program dates of Thursday, June 3rd - Friday, July 28th (Exceptions made for extension of school year due to snow days.)
