Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The School of Nursing ( SON), within the College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington ( UNCW) invites applications for 9 month, full-time, tenure track faculty position. This is a spring semester hire starting in May 2025 in support of 12-month program; summer teaching is required in these positions for additional compensation. It is expected that this appointment will be converted to 12-month tenure track faculty position within one to three years.
Tenure track faculty have teaching, research and scholarship, and service expectations. The primary teaching responsibilities will be assigned across undergraduate and graduate nursing programs to meet the SON's needs and includes student advising and or mentoring. Tenure track faculty are expected to engage in professional and community service and outreach and contribute to ongoing program evaluation and improvement. Successful candidates will be expected to relocate to North Carolina and maintain a campus presence as part of the School of Nursing faculty.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in nursing OR a doctorate in a related discipline with a baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing at time of application.
  • Demonstrate the potential for high-quality teaching and a sponsored research program.
  • A clear direction for research and scholarly activity is required.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • teaching experience and a focused program of research and scholarly activity that complement existing school research and scholarship focus.
  • clinical experience in the following areas: community, mental health, medical/surgical and/or critical care practice.
  • Nurse Practitioner experience is preferred but is not required.

Required Certifications or Licensure
A current RN license in NC or eligibility for licensure in NC.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The School of Nursing ( SON) within the College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS)at the University of North Carolina Wilmington ( UNCW) has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern North Carolina through education, scholarship, and service. The SON is dedicated to excellence in the development of healthcare professionals through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement, and community outreach and impact. The SON is a National League of Nursing Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, specifically in the area of promoting the pedagogical expertise of faculty. The SON is located in McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas and learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center. The Simulation Learning Center uses high, medium, and low-fidelity human patient simulators as teaching and learning tools for nursing education. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes the cognitive, affective, physical, and social development of the student as well as the incorporation of inter-professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College.
The SON offers the following degree and certificate programs:

  • BS in Nursing (Prelicensure, RN-BSN, Accelerated)
  • MS in Nursing (Nurse Educator), Nurse Educator Certificate
  • DNP

  • BSN to DNP (Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Adult/Gero Nurse Practitioner)

  • MSN to DNP (Nurse Executive Leadership and Post-APRN concentrations)


Over 1800 nursing students are enrolled in programs within the SON. The SON has over 85 full-time faculty and employs over 60 part-time faculty per semester.

The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Social Work.
