We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Content Project Manager to oversee all aspects of editorial production-from manuscript to final print and digital deliverables-for Higher Education and High School titles. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of content development, project management, and innovative digital production.

In a typical year, the Content Project Manager oversees production of a number of main-edition titles across various disciplines (Humanities, Sciences, and Social Sciences), as well as ancillaries and smaller-scale updates to existing digital projects. The Content Project Manager leverages a variety of production workflows and tools to achieve desired milestone dates, upholds the highest of standards, and ensures that costs and services are streamlined for projects in their charge.

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Project Planning and Coordination



  • Analyze customer needs and develop a production-editorial plan for each title, leveraging existing production workflows to meet desired dates.
  • Adapt and refine production processes to align with new technologies and digital goals.
  • Evaluate manuscripts and art programs to determine content and design needs, coordinating with internal teams to set up projects effectively.
  • Compile detailed cost estimates for required services, and streamline services and costs when possible.


Vendor and Team Collaboration



  • Work with vendor partners in both active-management and full-service capacities, depending on the unique circumstances for each project.
  • Partner with vendors and internal teams to create and monitor schedules, making adjustments as needed to ensure that projects remain on track.
  • Supervise vendor project managers for full-service projects, ensuring adherence to proper workflows, quality standards, and specifications.
  • Collaborate with vendor partners to select and manage editorial freelancers, maintaining high standards for all deliverables.


Quality Assurance



  • For actively managed projects, review all stages of proof/ePub, revisions, and final files to maintain exceptional quality for print and digital products.
  • Ensure that the work of vendors and freelancers meets the highest standards.


Technology and Tools Management



  • Utilize digital production tools to execute tasks, report bugs/issues, and coordinate work among team members.
  • Maintain detailed project records and manage day-to-day invoice processing efficiently.


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 5+ years of production editorial experience (preferably in college textbooks or a similarly rigorous, fast-paced field of work).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with outstanding time management and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Superior copyediting and proofreading skills.
  • Experience working with ePubs or similar digital products, and familiarity with the conventions of digital content and design.
  • Experience applying ready familiarity with book design, composition/layout, and type specifications.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and productively, even in a remote-work setup.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing technologies and an increasingly electronic workplace.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing processes and workflows.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and project management interfaces (Smartsheets, JIRA, Confluence).

Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000/year

Physical Requirements: Requires long periods of close concentration and multi-tasking in noisy/busy environment; may need to work overtime - more than 40 hours a week - occasionally.

The position is eligible for remote employment, excluding the following locations: Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming.
