Learning & Development Specialist
American Public Education, Inc.

As a Learning & Development Specialist at APEI, you will serve as the bridge between our Learning & Development team and the employees we support, acting as a strategic partner to translate business needs into impactful learning solutions.

You'll be the expert and primary steward of our Learning Management System (Docebo), ensuring it operates seamlessly and serves as an intuitive hub for education and professional growth.

In this role, you will help implement programs, ensuring content from our team best leverages our system for maximum engagement and accessibility. You will also work closely with internal clients to understand their needs, design tailored solutions, and drive projects to completion.

Beyond system management, the L&D Specialist will lead communication planning and execution for learning initiatives, ensuring our workforce stays informed and engaged.

Responsibilities:

LMS Administration:



  • Manage the LMS (Docebo): Serve as the primary administrator and expert, ensuring smooth functionality, governance, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Translate Needs into Solutions: Collaborate with internal clients to understand their objectives and design tailored learning solutions within the LMS framework.
  • Build and Optimize Learning Ecosystems: Create and maintain course catalogs, learning paths, requirements, channels, and certifications to maximize engagement and usability.
  • Foster Adoption: Partner with stakeholders to promote LMS adoption, driving its use for role-specific training, skill development, and knowledge sharing.
  • Ensure Accessibility and Quality: Implement governance standards to ensure learning content is accurate, accessible, and inclusive for all employees.


Client Collaboration & Communication:
* Act as a Liaison: Serve as the bridge between clients and the L&D team, translating business needs into actionable learning and development initiatives.
* Communication Planning: Develop and execute communication strategies to promote L&D programs, ensuring clarity, consistency, and engagement across audiences.
* Program Rollouts: Oversee the successful implementation of learning programs, coordinating with internal teams and stakeholders to meet deadlines and objectives.

HR Intranet Oversight & Management:



  • Maintain and Optimize Content: Manage the HR intranet (Sitefinity), ensuring up-to-date, well-organized, and user-friendly resources.
  • Content Organization: Use tagging and logical structures to make information intuitive and easily located.


Learning & Development Program Support:



  • Design Practical Tools: Develop job aids, guides, and other resources to support learners and enhance training effectiveness.
  • Monitor and Assess Programs: Collaborate with the L&D team to evaluate program success through metrics, user feedback, and performance outcomes, recommending improvements as needed.


      Requirements:



      • 2+ years of experience in e-learning development and LMS back-end administration (Docebo experience preferred).
      • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to plan, identify, coordinate, and track critical activities, milestones, and deliverables.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey information effectively to various audiences.
      • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail while juggling multiple tasks
      • Proficient computer skills needed, including MS Office, Teams, and SharePoint.
      • Experience with eLearning software integration with an LMS (SCORM / AICC, xAPI).
      • Effective planning, time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
      • Basic knowledge of Canva or other design software
      • Knowledge of principles and methods for adult learning, training design, instruction, and the measurement of training effectiveness.
