Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center offers a full range of orthopedic surgery in our new, technologically advanced operating suites. Our award-winning spine and joint replacement programs are critically acclaimed in the Maryland-Washington, D.C. area. Our specialists can do custom joint replacements, arthroscopic or minimally invasive procedures and fracture management. We also offer shoulder surgery, including rotator cuff repair and other common shoulder procedures.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Physician Assistant's primary responsibility is to assist the Orthopedic Departments in evaluation, diagnosis, and education of adult and pediatric patients on the Inpatient units and the Emergency Department.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Employee demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit as indicated by the following:

* Demonstrates ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.

* Identifies the physical, motor, sensory, cognitive and psychosocial characteristics for age group(s) served.

* Demonstrates age appropriate communication skills.

* Demonstrates ability to provide the care needed as described in the job description and the department's scope of service for the patient groups under his/her care.

Age group(s) served will be one or more of the following: Infant (Birth to 12 months), Child (13 months to 12 years), Adolescent (13 years to 17 years), Adult (18 years to 69 years) or Geriatric (70 years and older).

2. Daily post-operative rounding and follow-up with the orthopedic department's patients. PA will monitor the patients' progress and provide any care or assistance as needed, or as ordered by the attending physicians, e.g., H&P exams, dressing changes, cast/splint application, application of various orthopedic equipment and soft-goods, etc. to provide the patients' comfort and recovery. Consult with both the attending surgeon and the internal medicine staff providing services to the patients.

3. Is responsible for admission history and physical exams as needed, daily progress notes, daily orders and discharge summaries as requested by attending.

4. Evaluates orthopedic patients in the emergency room and surgical floor consults.

5. Communicates with other departments and physicians concerning the patients' treatment (e.g., primary care physician, case management, and social work).

6. Implements patient teaching and record all pertinent and accurate information on appropriate medical records and reports.

7. Maintains adequate level of specialty supplies.

8. Performs all other duties as required or assigned to assure patient needs are met.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

1. Bachelor's Degree required.

2. Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.

3. Must be board certified by NCCPA with satisfactory completion of the national exam and maintain a minimum CME.

4. Previous experience as an Inpatient Physician Assistant required, Ortho. experience preferred.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

1. Current license as a Physician Assistant in the state of Maryland.

3. Current certification by NCCPA.

4. Current CPR certification.

Salary Range: Minimum 71.61 per hour - Maximum 71.61 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
