INTERNSHIP - Strategy: Virtual + Real Scientist

Dassault Systemes
United States, California, San Diego
Jan 08, 2025

The BIOVIA Strategy team continues to look for opportunities to enhance product lines to meet the needs of customers today and tomorrow. Academic collaborators with abilities to test and improve product lines in cutting edge research environments while adding value through new insights. This may including, but is not limited to;

  • Evaluating offerings versus competitors
  • Looking for collaborative opportunities
  • Developing relationships with thought leaders
  • Identifying opportunities for publications that validate BIOVIA's contributions to science

As a BIOVIA Strategy: Virtual + Real Scientist Intern, you will work with the biosciences and lab informatics team to support the development of BIOVIA scientific software. The project entails the use of various biochemical and structural approaches to understand novel oncology targets. The ideal candidate will focus on the mechanism of activation of understudied proteins in cancer. To do so, the candidate will utilize computational approaches offered through in-house packages available at BIOVIA. These may involve AI driven structure determination of mutant proteins followed by physics-based molecular dynamics within the Discovery Studio suite to investigate how mutations found in the genes of tumors affect structure, function and dynamic equilibrium of the resultant proteins. The candidate will utilize these technologies, as well as other software suites to generate testable hypotheses that the candidate will interrogate using more wet lab based biochemical approaches. Identifying potential mutant proteins and their unique druggable sites as oncology targets will allow the candidate to evaluate the impact of BIOVIA's, generative therapeutics design on discovery of novel small molecule modulators. By taking this cutting edge AI driven approach to drug discovery new molecules will be identified for testing, demonstrating the ability of BIOVIA's workflows to discovery drugs against novel oncology targets.

Demonstrated experience in both Modeling and Simulations (molecular dynamics of proteins). Strong understanding of biochemistry and biophysics is essential, ideal candidate will have a background in cellular signaling with a focus on structural biology. Current doctoral candidate with an ability to work in the San Diego office.

Strong communication skills, ability to publish in top tier scientific journals and speak with precision at scientific conferences while retaining an ability to distill complex science for communication to lay audiences. Communicate with all stakeholders on the progress of the project, challenges. Identify and bring to stakeholder's attention opportunities for enhancements to the workflows that discovered or ideated throughout the process. Our projects tend to have a high degree of transparency, so helping others understand your work is crucial. We maintain an internal platform for communication and contribution of all stakeholders, contributions from the intern will be critical.

Enthusiastic, highly motivated, organized and open to coaching. Finally, a desire to explore and have fun through working with the great tools that we have made and you can enhance.
