The Peabody Essex Museum is one of the nation's most dynamic art museums and operates on a global stage through its initiatives, networks, and patrons. Founded in 1799, PEM is dedicated to transforming people's lives by creating a museum experience that celebrates the capacity of art and culture to inform and change our understanding of our place in the world. By presenting art and culture in new ways, by linking past and present, and by embracing artistic and cultural achievements worldwide, the museum offers unique opportunities to explore multilayered and interconnected arenas of creative expression. The Security Department at the Peabody Essex Museum is seeking a part-time Precinct Specialist I to coordinate closely with the Campus Supervisors, Security Supervisors and the Security Operations Center to provide a constant security presence on campus and in the Museum. Primary duties will include, but are not limited to, opening and closing galleries, inspecting and patrolling, responding to emergencies and security issues, and documenting all non-routine occurrences. The Precinct Specialist I is qualified for assignment to established precincts and as a gallery officer in any area on the museum campus as may be needed. Education in criminal justice, and/or prior security experience or military service strongly preferred. Experience in a museum, cultural institution or non-profit organization is a plus. A valid Massachusetts driver's license is preferred for availability to work at off-site Museum properties on the North Shore. Conversational fluency in a language other than English is a plus. The applicant will also need to be committed to work evening, weekend, and special event shifts. The hourly range for this role is $19.53 to $20.39, commensurate with experience, totaling 20-24 hours per week. PEM is committed to enhancing diversity in its staff, visitors, exhibitions and programs while promoting an inclusive environment. We seek candidates who can contribute to our goals and encourage you to apply and to identify your strengths in these areas. |
