Position Description
Employees in this position are responsible for the maintenance of patient billing accounts and performing numerous related functions to accomplish this task; such as, patient registration, insurance follow-up, financial screening of unfunded patients, answering patient billing inquiries, collection of unpaid balances and posting of payments in the Regional Campus Business Office.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Supports the Philosophy of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Values Based Performance
  • Supports the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center SON Larry Combest Community Health & Wellness Center Mission, Vision, & Values
  • Follow up for Medicare, Medicaid, and Insurance and private pay accounts. Refile and/or appeal claims as needed to keep the days in A/R down
  • Work electronic claim rejections within the Electronic Task Management (ETM) system and refile claims to carrier
  • Work with patients regarding balance inquiry, reviewing statements, and payments
  • Work closely with Front Desk Supervisor and Unit Manager to correct demographic, guarantor,
    and insurance issues within the Practice Management System
  • Post patient payments and make adjustments as needed to accounts to reflect accurate balance
  • Know State and Federal billing regulations for both FQHC and non-FQHC services provided by the clinic
  • Working knowledge of referrals for Diabetes Education, OB services, and other new practice programs
  • File secondary claims as appropriate to complete the billing cycle for patient accounts. Move balances to patient responsibility as appropriate
  • Work Enterprise Task Management (ETM) work files weekly to maintain steady reimbursement for all clinic sites
  • Communicate with Unit Manager regarding issues with managed care companies or system issues in order to resolve concerns
  • Scan approved batches into the corresponding buckets within the system


Required Qualifications
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Two years of medical or general office experience OR Completion of related education or training and one year of experience.
