Overview Specialist Pharmacy Pharmacist Call Center Monday-Friday 9a-5p, rotating call. Full Time + Benefits This pharmacist position is located in a call center of the UnityPoint at Home Specialty Pharmacy where primary duties revolve around patient education for patients receiving therapy for complex, rare, and chronic conditions treated with expensive therapies. The pharmacist contacts patients by phone to educate, assess, monitor, and plan care with patients to improve overall patient outcomes. Proactive contact with patients to determine patient understanding and engagement in their care and to nurture the relationship with the patient to perform therapy management duties in order to elicit a positive response and improve adherence to prescribed regimen. Responsibilities Job Description: Process Prescription Orders: Receive, validate, clarify, and process prescription orders. Gather Information: Collect necessary details for prescription processing, including demographics, insurance, allergies, medication history, and diagnoses. Documentation & Communication: Document and communicate medical information related to therapeutic appropriateness, adherence issues, drug utilization review, side effects, and potential interactions. Knowledge Maintenance: Stay updated on specialty medications and clinical practices. Customer Interaction: Handle incoming calls from patients, providers, and healthcare professionals, providing answers or coordinating with appropriate services. Medication Counseling: Conduct telephonic medication counseling and therapy management, including education on proper administration and adherence monitoring. Issue Resolution: Address side effect management, adverse event reporting, and dispensing or shipping errors. Patient Management: Supervise the patient management program and coordinate care with available resources. Relationship Building: Maintain positive relationships with referral sources and deliver exceptional patient and customer service. Benefits Investigation: Initiate and follow up on benefits investigation and prior authorization to obtain payer approval. Order Fulfillment: Verify medication, supplies, delivery method, and ensure timely delivery with all necessary supplies. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure documentation meets regulatory, FDA, REMS, and accreditation requirements. Knowledge of Regulations: Maintain knowledge of relevant regulations affecting patients and business operations. On-Call Duties: Perform on-call and other duties as assigned by the manager. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in Science or Pharm D. degree Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy. Experience: Strong interpersonal skills. Strong problem solving skills with previous customer service experience. Basic knowledge of computer applications (i.e. Word, Excel) and operations. Ability to work as a collaborative team member. Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures. License(s)/Certification(s): Current unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in the state where service is provided.
