POSITION SUMMARY:

Boston Medical Center's Associate Medical Director of Occupational Health provides direct care to employees and clients and clinical guidance to the BMCHS Occupational Health Clinic staff and advance practice providers. The Associate Medical Director reports to and works with the Director of Occupational Health and the Medical Director of Occupational Health to meet the employee and occupational health needs of the Boston Medical Center Health System.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

The Associate Medical Director is responsible for providing clinical services to our employees and clients, and guidance to clinical staff in the execution of their clinical responsibilities. In consultation with the Director and Medical Director, they may also participate in interdisciplinary committees, policy review, workers compensation case management, maintaining and presenting various reports (e.g. contaminated sharps, employee exposures, etc.), and other related tasks as assigned.

The Associate Medical Director provides direction on occupational health matters including the interpretation of regulations and standards, medical documentation, implementing and participating in medical surveillance programs, fitness for duty cases, ergonomic assessments, and injury and exposure prevention, among others.

The Associate Medical Director will help oversee management of workers compensation. This requires that the director fosters collaboration between Occupational Health and Absence Management, works effectively with claims and case managers, and develops and maintains an effective working relationship with all parties involved.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • MD or DO, board certified (Occupational and Environmental Medicine preferred), MA medical license

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • OEM Board Certified Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) licensed in Massachusetts;

EXPERIENCE:


  • 2-3 years experience as Occupational Health Physician and/or Medical Director in an occupational health setting

  • Trained and experienced at performing Worker's Compensation exams, DOT Exams, and services such as Independent Medical Exams (IME), EKG interpretation, and Medical Review Officer (MRO preferred, but not required), interpreting pulmonary function testing and hearing exams


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):


  • Clinical competencies for managing work-related injuries, exposures, and illnesses.

  • Knowledge of OSHA, Joint Commission, CDC and MDPH standards and guidelines for healthcare settings.

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with cross-functional teams including staff at all levels of the organization of varying backgrounds.
