Job Description Summary:The Atmospheric Chemistry, Observations and Modeling Lab at the National Center for Atmospheric Research is pleased to open a Casual Project Scientist II position, supporting and advising research using satellite data to improve model representation of atmospheric processes affecting tropospheric chemistry through validation studies of satellite data, comparison of satellite measurements with models output, and evaluation against independent data sets.

ACOM is a multidisciplinary lab leading and supporting community-driven research to address important questions about the effects of chemistry in the atmosphere, such as air quality and climate change, through observational instrumentation that we fly around the globe, world-class weather and climate modeling, and satellite programs and data techniques. What You Will Do

Here is a brief summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the management of satellite data sets, their interrogation with data analysis tools, and graphical display of results.

  • Assist with validation exercises comparing satellite measurements with models and other independent observational data.

  • Advise on strategy for curating satellite data sets within ACOM

Who We'd Love To Join Our Team

Successful candidates will ensure their application materials speak to the following criteria:

Education and Experience (Required):

  • Ph.D. in a relevant science and at least three years of experience in the scientific field of specialization; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated record of research and publication.

  • Experience with data analysis, visualization and management of large satellite datasets. Demonstrated expertise manipulating the geostationary datasets of GEMS and TEMPO

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required):

  • Advanced knowledge of fundamental processes controlling emissions, atmospheric chemistry and transport.

  • Advanced skill in atmospheric constituent observational techniques and satellite retrieval validation

  • Advanced skill in the analysis and interpretation of satellite retrievals and in situ observations, and their use in evaluation of models

  • Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including success in a hybrid remote/in person environment
