May plan, assign and supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Monitor and evaluate progress toward degree and eligibility requirements for a caseload of football student-athletes. Maintain records in compliance with Texas Tech University, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA standards.
  • Serve as an athletic academic services liaison to staff and faculty.
  • Work with athletic compliance and certification to ensure proper procedures and processes.
  • Collaborate with the Learning Assistance Program staff to assign subject/general tutoring, learning specialist sessions, and study hall requirements for student-athletes.
  • Assist in the recruiting visit process for prospective student-athletes in the sport of football; Meet with & guide prospective student-athletes through the pre-TTU admission process.
  • Advise current student-athletes on academic progress, degree selection, appropriate class selection, academic policies, and campus resources. Monitor academic progress and proactively create intervention plans.
  • Provide consistent and frequent communication with the Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Excellence (Football), with coaches, and support staff about the progress of assigned student-athletes. Prepare necessary reports and updates for coaches and support staff.
  • Assist in the practice clearance for football student-athletes process.
  • Additional administrative duties include but are not limited to:
    • Assist with Marsha Sharp Center staff in coordinating faculty/staff guest coaching activities for football.
    • Liaison for enrollment holds; Contact for football textbooks.
    • Maintain football roster documents.
    • Maintain academic no-show report.
  • Serve as lead or contributing member of Marsha Sharp Center for Student Athletes committees.
  • Coordinate the football student-athlete class checking program; Coordinate with football staff and student workers on class checking schedule.
  • Comply with all NCAA, Big 12, Texas Tech University, federal and state procedures, rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in area of expertise or closely related area required. Five (5) years of experience in planning, developing, or implementing programs or research grants. Additional education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree
  • A minimum of two years of experience in athletic academic advising or related experience in an educational environment.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • A thorough understanding of student development, counseling, advising, or related areas.
  • Ability to interact with individuals of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to collaborate and to work effectively with other staff, student-athletes, coaches, and administrators.
  • Be able to work in time-sensitive and occasional pressured environments.
  • Ability to organize tasks and set priorities.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
