Lubbock Utility Operator I 39864BR Ops Div CHACP 2 Position Description Performs work at the journeyperson/tradesperson level in the operation and maintenance of equipment in a central heating and cooling plant. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on performance. About the Department and/or College CHACP I, constructed in 1967, has undergone two major expansions-in 1974 and 1999-to enhance its cooling and heating capacities, now reaching 20,000 tons of chilled water and 500,000 pounds of steam per hour through various cooling and heating systems. The plant services 6.8 million square feet of the main campus via 7.75 miles of utility tunnels, providing not only 80psi steam for heating and humidification and 7.5 million gallons of chilled water for cooling but also limited compressed air and reverse osmosis water to select customers. Additionally, it features a Back Pressure Turbine Generator capable of producing 935 Kilowatts of electricity for internal use, a 1,500 Kilowatt Emergency Generator, and three water wells for cooling tower makeup. Major/Essential Functions
Required Qualifications High school or equivalent plus one year as a licensed journeyperson/tradesperson or one year utility plant and job related experience. Additional related education may substitute on a year for year basis. Must have completed the Personnel Qualification System (PQS) requirements for Maintenance Mechanic, or if a new hire, must complete within six months. Preferred Qualifications
