The Automated Lab Operator (Lab) coordinates implementation and operations for automated sorting, testing, and storage equipment within the clinical laboratory department. Work in partnership with Specimen Processing, Technical Operations, Biomedical Engineering, and Siemens Support teams.This position reports to the Director, Facilities (Lab).

Responsible for daily operations of automation and maintenance of automation equipment for all work cycles

  • Maintenance to include daily, weekly, monthly and annual preventive maintenance
  • Handling technical exceptions for tubes on the automation line
  • First level of troubleshooting of automation line modules

Coordinate communications for the business with Siemens support staff and Lab Leadership to identify, document and resolve problems and/or concerns.

  • Effectively work with Lab Teammates, Facilities and IT departments to resolve problems and/or concerns.

Assist to develop and implement Standard Work/Operating Procedures for Technical Support in accordance with DaVita Labs guidelines.

  • Evaluate technical operations standards work/operating procedure manual on an annual basis and ensures departmental compliance.
  • Identifies need for revisions and/or additional SOP's as indicated.
  • Ensures all laboratory quality assurance and quality control documentation is complete and reviewed.

  • Organize and lead projects both within the work group
  • Assist in the interviewing and training of new teammates.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Level I - Job required tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues or potential spills or splashes. Use of appropriate personal protection measures is required for every healthcare provider in these positions. Exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Normal hazards associated with frequent business travel by car.

VISUAL REQUIREMENTS

Vision adequate to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of position.

May be required to demonstrate the ability to differentiate colors on a test strip.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Physical requirements can vary. These must be reviewed with management. However, in general, the position requires the following activities:

  • Ability to lift minimum of 5 lbs to a max of 50 lbs unassisted and able to stand, sit, stoop, walk, stretch, reach, and use full range of body motions.
  • Manual dexterity as required for specific equipment and ability to use computer keyboard and peripherals.
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time.
  • Exposure to temperature 2-8 C (walk-in cooler)
