Responsibilities

Newport Healthcare, a leading adolescent treatment program, is seeking a Medical Director/Psychiatrist. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Psychiatry conducts initial evaluations of residents experiencing mental or emotional challenges and provides counseling and psychotherapy to clients in distress.

Essential Responsibilities :
  • Act as an effective member of the mental health team.
  • Supervise the psychiatric care of all residents.
  • Review medical histories and concerns for potential residents to facilitate medical clearance upon Admissions' request.
  • Ensure that psychiatric evaluations are conducted for each East Coast resident/patient within 48 hours of admission.
  • Provide assistance to residents requiring psychiatric support during their treatment.
  • Lead staff training sessions on relevant psychiatric issues and standards.
  • Participate in weekly Treatment Team Meetings.
  • Serve as a liaison with the staff Medical Director, Clinical Director, and other essential treatment team members.
  • Collaborate with the Newport Academy Outreach Team to build relationships with hospitals.
  • Work in partnership with the staff APRN.
  • Document patient interactions through weekly progress notes and electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Manage a caseload while collaborating with the psychiatry team, including APRNs and nursing staff.
  • Coordinate psychology services with direct care and clinical staff as needed.
  • Collaborate with the psychiatry team on shared cases during weekly meetings and as necessary.
  • Provide cross-coverage for psychiatry team cases when required.
  • Assist with patient admissions, including initial evaluations and documentation.
  • Serve as a liaison for patient families.
  • Act as a liaison for outpatient providers for clients.
  • Assist with utilization reviews for clients.
  • Maintain excellent communication with other clinical team members, outpatient providers, and family members.
  • Complete discharge recommendation assessments as part of collaborative discharge summaries.
  • Work in a collaborative environment while adhering to the requirements of Physician Collaborative Agreements.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients in the assigned unit, including an understanding of growth and development principles and the ability to assess and interpret data reflective of each patient's status and needs.
  • Perform administrative duties, including managing staff schedules.
  • Fulfill full-time responsibilities with some on-call duties.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Medicine (MD).
  • Board Certified in Child & Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry.
  • Licensed in the State of practice.
  • Experience with Adolescent Psychiatry strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a Residential setting required.
  • Medical Director/Physician leadership experience required.
