The Ultrasound Technologist competently performs routine and specialized ultrasound exams of varied complexity to produce quality images for physicians and other health care providers to diagnose, treat, and monitor disease processes. Works independently, exercising sound judgment, and executing developed clinical skills on challenging diagnostic procedures and situations to deliver accurate results in a timely manner. Work routines are guided by established procedures and protocols; quality of work performed is approved or reviewed by the shift supervisor, principal ultrasound technologist, manager, or appropriate radiologist.
This position may perform duties in the Main Hospital, Ambulatory Care Center, and/or satellite facilities throughout UCD's Primary Clinic Network as necessary. Position rotates scanning locations to include Davis Tower, ACC and PCN satellite facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

- American Registration for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification with applicable credential [e.g., Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT, etc.], or equivalent certification
- ARDMS in Abdomen and/or OBGYN
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
- Capably demonstrates the knowledge and ability to operate ultrasound equipment in order to produce a quality product.
- Must be able to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as radiological field advances.
- Ability to follow extensive and detailed protocols.
- Ability to use a checklist while performing studies.
- Analytical skills necessary to perform non-routine, complex ultrasound studies.
- Ability to perform detailed and complex ultrasounds on a varied patient population.
- Physical ability to capably perform all functions of a staff sonographer.
- Demonstrate ability to recognize normal human anatomy, certain pathological conditions, and the ability to utilize ultrasound equipment to differentiate disease processes and artifacts.
- Ability to function and remain calm under multiple direction and/or fluctuations of work volume.
- Skill to organize workload by priority to produce a sufficient volume of work in a timely manner.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

The Department of Radiology is a 24-hour, seven day a week operation providing Imaging Services to adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatients.
The Ultrasound section of Radiology performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasound exams and interventional procedures for diagnosis and treatment of disease processes.

Work Environment
UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. - Must be able to work occasional overtime to cover for sick leave, staffing shortages, etc.
- Must be able to work variable hours and variable work assignments to provide coverage for staff.

- TB test, current CPR required annually per JCAHO requirements.
- The incumbent must be registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic ( Medical Sonographers)Strength to lift and manipulate patients and/or equipment.
- Ability to safely transfer patients weighing up to 400 lbs. with assistance to/from exam table throughout the day.
- Safely Lifts/moves supply boxes, equipment, and/or pediatric patients up to 45 lbs. occasionally throughout the day.
- Ability to maneuver ultrasound equipment in tight places which includes bending, squatting, reaching, pushing and pulling.
- Ability to sit, and/or stand for long periods of time while performing patient exams.
- Must have stamina and mobility to walk from location to location within the hospital and other campus (satellite) locations.
- Manual dexterity to turn knobs and flip switches and maneuver various types of equipment; to operate a computer system for data entry; and to legibly enter information in small spaces on preprinted forms throughout the day.
- See, speak and hear well enough to accomplish patient tests without hampering the flow of activities.
- Communicate effectively in person and by telephone with Hospital personnel and the general public throughout the day.
- Work in a radiation area.
- Needs to be able to handle a high patient volume in high pressure department with constantly changing priorities.
