Overview

The Vermont Department Of Corrections seeks a Vocational Instructor, to deliver vocational training in a correctional facility. Duties involve direct instruction on industry recognized credentials, hands on career technical training and classroom instruction related to workforce development.

Considerable knowledge, methods and techniques within a variety of manufacturing, trades, culinary, and/or other career pathways. Considerable skills in organizing and delivery of vocational skills programs.

Experienced vocational instructors with a proven track record - highly desired. Certification in OSHA and NCCER a plus. Will train the right candidate.

This position will be located at Northwest State Correctional Facility primarily and will also have instruction responsibility at Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility. reports to the Workforce development coordinator at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans Vermont.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in an institutional setting with constant exposure to and interaction with Incarcerated Individuals residents. Incumbents must be able to operate shop machinery, lift and carry moderately heavy equipment, and supervise correctional facility inmates. An incumbent should possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation AND five (5) years or more experience with at an apprenticeship level in trades

OR

High school graduation and experience work with a vocational training program, experience in delivering vocational training AND one (1) year or more of experience as described above. Certified in training i.e. NCCER.

Special Requirements

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
