The Department of Mathematics at the University of Virginia College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is seeking applications for the position of Department Finance and Administration Manager. This position plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the department and contributing to a thriving academic and research environment. The Department Finance and Administration Manager will oversee essential functions across the department, with primary responsibilities in administration, budget & finance, and personnel management. The ideal candidate will interact well with department members in a variety of roles, including graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty in both teaching and research positions. Initiative in implementing procedures or workflows to increase staff effectiveness and efficiency is encouraged. The Department Manager is an essential advisor to the department chair on fiscal, budgetary and human resource issues and a vital player in supporting the department mission. Minimum Requirements: * Bachelor's degree and 4 years of increasingly responsible management and administrative responsibility is required. Two years of supervisory experience is required. Relevant exempt level experience may substitute for a degree. Preferred Qualifications * Experience in a support capacity in an academic environment. * Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, demanding and complex environment while remaining flexible and collegial. * Ability to work well as a team member, as well as independently with minimal supervision. * Prior supervisory experience * Preferred computer experience: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Workday, Adaptive and SIS (Student Information System) * Experience developing and managing budgets and ability to produce, interpret, and share regular financial reporting from existing financial systems. Anticipated Hiring Range: $75,000 - $80,000 and will be commensurate with experience This position is located in Charlottesville, VA, and is primarily an on-site role.
