Duties and Responsibilities |
The Research Team is seeking a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Loyola University Chicago, specializing in Surface Science and Catalyst Characterization methods. Our Research focuses on studying chemical reactions on well-defined surfaces under ultrahigh vacuum conditions using scanning tunneling microscopy and advanced spectroscopic techniques. The successful Candidate will contribute to a project funded by the Petroleum Research Fund, aimed at developing novel catalytic surfaces for the gas-phase hydroformylation reaction. This Project offers opportunities for collaboration with other Universities and national laboratories, providing excellent networking and career development prospects.

Qualifications:
- PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related Disciplines.
- Strong knowledge of Surface Science research.
- Experience working with model surfaces in ultrahigh vacuum conditions.
- Familiarity with Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) imaging.
Preferred Qualifications (but not required):
- Experience with sample characterization techniques using various spectroscopic methods, such as X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Infrared Spectroscopy, etc.
- Experience with Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations.

A PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related Disciplines.

Computer Skills |
Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint, are required for this position. While our group is currently focused on experimental work, one of our long-term goals is to develop expertise in Computational Chemistry. Therefore, Applicants with experience using programs for running
DFT calculations, and who can help advance progress in this area, are highly preferred (though not required). Additionally, experience with various image processing software for
STM data analysis and creating
DFT models is also preferred. |
