Come join our team as a Technical Editor! This pivotal role is essential to maintaining Osborn Consulting's reputation for accuracy and professionalism. As a team player, you will support all our practices as they deliver critical public infrastructure projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. You will collaborate with project managers and technical staff to produce a variety of unique project deliverables, supporting projects that make a direct impact on our local communities.


About the Role
We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented, and reliable individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks. If you have a passion for learning and a curiosity about the civil engineering and landscape architecture world, we encourage you to apply! This will be a part-time, benefit-eligible role at 32 hours/week with the potential of developing into a 40-hour full-time position.

General responsibilities for the position:



  • Oversees the technical editing of material for reports, manuals, engineering specifications, sales proposals, training materials, and related technical and administrative publications.
  • Edits written technical documents for completeness, accuracy and correctness of language use, and revises documents to meet predetermined standards of style.
  • Review documents with a strategic lens to ensure they fulfill their intended purpose, asking clarifying questions and using editorial expertise to enhance clarity, flow, and audience understanding.
  • Conducts research and ensures the use of proper technical and industry terminology; verifies facts, dates, and statistics using standard reference sources.
    Reorganizes, cuts, or rewrites documents as necessary.
  • Allocates print space for figures, tables, photos, and illustrations according to space parameters and copy significance, using formatting styles in both Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Amends draft tables and graphics to ensure the content supports and is consistent with the accompanying text.
  • Creates templates for technical writers that are easy to apply and adapt.
  • Manages and updates Content Delivery Network with new or revised templates.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with internal communications manager.
    Reviews sales proposals, as needed.
  • Develops internal trainings to promote technical report writing skills.
  • Responsible for the final formatting and production of documents, including compilation of pdfs.


About You



  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications, engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Strong writing, technical editing, proofreading, and page composition skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Suite skills, including formatting and report production.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and work with multiple project managers concurrently.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in A/E/C industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience in SpecsIntact is preferred but not required.



Location
Bellevue, WA (Hybrid, 1-3 days in office each week)

The expected compensation range for this position for employees based in the Bellevue/Seattle area is $35-50/hour and is dependent upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
