Job Description
Virginia's community colleges have a 50-year track record of educational excellence and innovation to serve the needs of our citizens and strengthen the Commonwealth's economy. When Virginia's General Assembly established the Virginia Community College System in 1966, the need for a comprehensive system was well known. Over the two decades after the end of World War II, leaders in government, business, professional sectors, and academia had called for a new approach to providing educational opportunity. A key concern was Virginia's ability to develop a skilled and knowledgeable workforce to expand the state's economy. Today our community colleges give every Virginian the opportunity to gain a quality education. With 23 colleges on 40 campuses located throughout the state, Virginia's Community Colleges are committed to serving Virginia families, helping them acquire the knowledge and skills to seize the opportunities of today and tomorrow.

The Statewide Coordinator for the College Attainment for Parent Students ( CAPS) Program will play a pivotal role in transforming educational opportunities for parent students across Virginia's community college system. This dynamic position combines leadership, advocacy, and data-driven strategy to drive program success.
The Coordinator will oversee the implementation of the CAPS initiative, aiming to enhance economic mobility for student parents. Key responsibilities include building a sustainable data infrastructure, advocating for student-parent-focused policies, and fostering partnerships with community colleges and external stakeholders that will meet the programmatic goals and grant milestones.
As the face of the CAPS initiative, the Coordinator will ensure measurable outcomes by leading a statewide effort to identify and address barriers faced by parent students, ultimately creating a scalable model for nationwide impact. This role requires a strategic, collaborative professional dedicated to achieving equity and economic opportunity for student parents in higher education.
This position will be a part of the Student Success Center's Coaching Team and will be expected to collaborate with the team and to contribute to other teamwork, such as supporting the New Horizons Conference.
