Weld Engineer Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Weld Engineer position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide. Job Summary: Develops and maintains programs, procedures, techniques, and qualification for welding of Fike products. This includes validation and qualification of weldments manufactured in accordance with DOT, ASME, CE, and various Aerospace standards as they apply to welding. Provides technical product support for internal and external customers. Interacts within the engineering department, as well as Sales, Operations, and Quality to resolve problems with respect to product design and welding compliance. Serves as support for Operations performing code welding with EBW, GTAW, GMAW, and SAW welding processes on pressure vessels as well as rupture disc assemblies. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Primary Responsibilities: 1. Coordinates with the Operations team to develop weld settings and qualify procedures for compliance to welding standards based on base materials, welding processes, heat treatments, and product designs. 2. Maintains welding and related NDT programs and ensures compliance with applicable industry standards and third party approvals for welding quality control. 3. Manages the qualification, documentation, and quality records for welding personnel as it applies to various welding processes under various welding standards. 4. Maintains current weld procedure qualifications as they apply to new equipment and new designs. 5. Provides guidance, procedure interpretation, and troubleshooting support to welding personnel during welding operation. 6. Provides guidance and training to technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards. 7. Reviews welded designs for joint stress loading, design code requirements, base metal restrictions, welding process restrictions, etc. as it applies to welding. 8. Leads or participates in root cause analysis on welding non-conformances or defects. 9. Works with notified bodies to ensure compliance and approval for welded products and welding processes. 10. Conducts investigations to develop and test welding processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures. 11. Follows procedures and policies for drawing and document revision and creation. 12. Identifies opportunities for design standardization, design improvements, process improvements, etc. 13. Performs engineering calculations to provide design justification for welded assemblies 14. Provides welding support to Fike subsidiaries, distributors, representatives, and suppliers as necessary. 15. Participates in and provides welding subject matter expertise in cross-functional projects. 16. Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed. Performs related duties as assigned. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, hear, see, sit, and use hands. Job Qualifications: Required: Bachelor's degree in technical discipline with curriculum that includes mechanical, metallurgical or welding classes or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years or more of experience in welding engineering/technologies. Knowledge of industry welding codes and standards (such as ASME Section IX, CGA standards, AWS standards, ISO standards, customer specified aerospace standards, etc.) Preferred: American Welding Society certification such as Inspector, Educator, or Engineer. Pressure vessel design experience. NDT Level II or III in Liquid Penetrant and/or Radiography .
