Summary

Manages comprehensive orthotic and/or prosthetic patient care including patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up, and practice management.

Job Duties

  • Performs a comprehensive assessment of the patient including their functional baseline to understand the patient's orthotic and/or prosthetic needs, goals, and expectations.
  • Analyzes and integrates information from patient assessment to create a comprehensive orthotic and/or prosthetic treatment/care plan to meet the needs, goals, and expectations of the patient.
  • Performs and directs necessary procedures, including fabrication, related to the provision of comprehensive orthotic and/or prosthetic treatment.
  • Provides continuing patient care through periodic evaluation to ensure, maintain, and document optimal fit and function of the orthosis or prosthesis.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures regarding human resources, physical environment, business and financial practices, reimbursement requirements, and organizational management.
  • Provides supervision, guidance, and direction to fitters and technicians as indicated.
  • Provides training to fitters, technicians, and apprentices as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Prosthetics & Orthotics or
  • Graduate of an American Board for Certification or Board of Certification approved education program
  • CPO - Certified Prosthetist-Orthotist - American Board for Certification Upon Hire or
  • CP - Certified Prosthetist - American Board for Certification Upon Hire or
  • CP - Certified Prosthetist - Board of Certification/Accreditation Upon Hire or
  • CO - Certified Orthotist - American Board for Certification Upon Hire or
  • CO - Certified Orthotist - Board of Certification/Accreditation Upon Hire and
  • LP - Licensed Prosthetist - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire or
  • LO - Licensed Orthotist - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
