Responsibilities

We are seeking a Healthcare Network Engineer, sometimes referred to as a Network Administrator or IT Network Engineer at St Joseph Medical Center a member of Prime Healthcare in Kansas City, MO. A hospital network engineer is responsible for maintaining a secure, high-speed, and reliable network that supports patient care, medical research, and hospital operations. Their role is essential in ensuring efficiency, safeguarding data, and enhancing patient safety while managing and securing the hospital's IT infrastructure.

Shift's Available: Days (No Weekends)

Employment Type: Full Time

Hours: 8hr

** This role typically follows a Monday-through-Friday schedule; however, due to its critical nature, you will be on call for IT emergencies and urgent issues that require immediate resolution. **

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

    Network Design & Maintenance:
    • set up and maintain the hospital's network infrastructure, to include server configurations, active directories, Wi-Fi, LAN, and WAN
    • ensure redundancy and high availability to prevent downtime that could affect critical medical services
  • Security & Compliance:
    • implement firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems to protect sensitive patient data
    • confirm compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and other healthcare regulations
  • Support Medical Equipment & Applications:
    • manage the network connectivity for medical devices like MRI machines, X-ray systems, and patient monitoring devices
    • ensure Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic) function smoothly across the hospital network
  • Troubleshoot & Incident Response:
    • diagnose and fix network outages, slow performance, or cybersecurity threats through ticketing systems (ServiceNow)
    • implement data backup strategies and disaster recovery plans to prevent data loss during power outages or cyberattacks
    • assist in the setup of communication systems (VoIP, paging, emergency alert systems)


Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  • Two (2) or more years of applicable work experience
  • Knowledge of server configurations, active directories, LAN and WAN
  • Bachelor's Degree Required for all new hires starting 4/1/14
  • Training in Windows 2010/2016/2019/2022 servers

It will be great if you also happen to have these qualifications but not required:

  • MCP Certification or MSDE Microsoft Certification preferred
  • CCNA or Similar networking certification preferred
