Geosyntec is seeking a mid-level AutoCAD Civil 3D Designer in our one of our Pacific Northwest Branch offices (Seattle WA, Bainbridge Island WA, Bellingham, WA, Wenatchee WA, Yakima WA, Olympia WA,). The position will support the firm's growing infrastructure practice with a wide variety of engineering design and drafting tasks. This position offers the opportunity to work side-by-side with project engineers seeing projects from concept through construction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to perform design tasks, such as surface analyses, drawing alignments, creating profiles/sections, creating design profiles, general grading capabilities with 3D Polylines/Feature lines, Grading Groups, Corridors, and perform volume calculations.
  • Perform common grading and volume calculation tasks for channels, berms, and general site grading with support and guidance from project team.
  • Utilize math, problem-solving, critical thinking, 3-dimensional visualization, and client-service skills to produce effective plan sets and drawings.
  • Maintain and build technical skills and expertise in new tools.
  • Remain detail-oriented while working on large, complex drawings.
  • Management of multiple projects, deadlines, and project teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Manage production of construction plans for civil engineering projects from creation, markup, modification/edits through final deliverable.
  • Draft, edit, and finalize design plans and details using appropriate symbols and drafting standards
  • Work independently on design projects and coordinate drafting efforts on projects.
  • Compile and analyze input data, project-related data, and any other material to determine the best approach to complete drawings.
  • Proofread CAD drawings for accuracy, format, and grammar.
  • Communicates with supervisor, and geoscience and engineering professional staff on progress and timeline of projects.
  • Participate in CAD Action Group, by supporting, networking, and collaborating to improve CAD standards and efficiencies across the company.
  • Embrace being a key member of a high-energy team, collaborating and communicating with technical and nontechnical audiences alike.
  • Use any additional technical skills (open-source programs, scripting/coding, data science/statistics, database management, IT, graphic design, writing) to solve problems, improve workflows, and advise internal and external clients.
  • No fieldwork is anticipated for this position.


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in drafting and at least 5 years professional experience in an engineering and/or consulting setting (or equivalent training/certification/experience). (required)
  • Experience using Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil 3D (required)
  • Demonstrable data management skills specific to AutoCAD, including Paper Space / Model Space, XREFs, Layers, Dynamic Blocks, and Tool Palettes
  • Direct experience in civil engineering basics, including sheet organization, topographical data, scales, and coordinate systems
  • Strong reasoning, mathematical, and geometrical skills. Ability to perform basic math skills, including applying concepts, such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions, to practical situations, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to work with a variety of data input types, such as GIS spatial data formats, lab data, table data
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions, and the ability to interact effectively to maintain a team environment across multiple disciplines and technical skill levels.
  • Ambition to learn and prioritize maintaining technical expertise as new tools and software become available
  • Experience with geoscience and geotechnical engineering processes
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum: $37.23/hour/ Maximum: $152.12/hour (Seattle / Bainbridge Island, WA)
  • Minimum: $35.54/hour/ Maximum: $49.75 /hour (Bellingham / Olympia, WA)
  • Minimum: $33.85/hour/ Maximum: $47.39 /hour (Wenatchee / Yakima, WA)
