Summary of Position

As a Communications Manager, you will be part of a team of master storytellers, using your professionalism and public relations skills to enhance the JobsOhio brand, ensuring the right message is shared and resonates with target communities, industries, and stakeholders. Crafting narratives that inspire, engage, and drive change, your role is pivotal in amplifying the JobsOhio mission, shaping perceptions, and celebrating Ohio's transformative journey. You will work closely with the JobsOhio Marketing and Creative teams to deliver high-quality materials supporting the goals of various internal teams, including leadership. The Communications Manager also collaborates with external stakeholders and partners to build strong relationships on behalf of JobsOhio.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement strategic communication blueprints that echo JobsOhio's values and foster transparent dialogue.
  • Utilize messaging platforms to scale content to new heights and ensure the JobsOhio client is at the center of the story.
  • Provide strategic counsel to leaders and stakeholders, aligning communications with the JobsOhio vision and selecting the most impactful channels with which to share that vision.
  • Craft compelling content - from speeches to social media - that narrates Ohio's success stories and JobsOhio's milestones.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams such as Marketing (Digital Marketing, Brand Marketing, and Creative Services), Projects, Business Development, Research, and leadership to weave a consistent, powerful brand narrative.
  • Co-create project announcements with network partners, highlighting shared goals between the state and regional-level economic development organizations.
  • Develop and oversee a suite of communications materials, including copy, video, event briefs, press releases, and media pitches, that authentically and passionately tell the JobsOhio story.
  • Monitor and engage with media across all platforms, keeping a pulse on relevant conversations.
  • Navigate crisis communications with agility, steering the JobsOhio narrative with confidence and urgency in collaboration with the appropriate internal leaders.
  • Curate an expansive network, connecting with media, stakeholders, and influencers to amplify the JobsOhio story.
  • Champion Ohio's business landscape and JobsOhio's positive impact through strategic news sharing.
  • Engage in high-profile events like board meetings, client company announcement events, groundbreakings, and ribbon cuttings, showcasing JobsOhio's commitment to economic growth and community development.
  • Build relationships with journalists, keeping them apprised of recent economic development happenings to generate positive media coverage.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive recap reports that reflect JobsOhio's journey and influence with outlets inside and outside Ohio.
  • Work cross-functionally with the internal sector leads to support the 10 industries in which JobsOhio focuses and in collaboration with the leaders of JobsOhio's strategic programs and services, Sites, Innovation, and Talent.


Experience Requirements

  • 8+ years in Communications, Public Relations, or Media Relations.
  • Proven expertise in crafting impactful communication strategies.
  • Seasoned relationship builder with news and social media influencers.
  • Skilled composer of polished, compelling content with a focus on factual and grammatical accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with project management tools.
  • Adept in navigating media intelligence platforms for media monitoring and list building.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and navigate challenging situations with exceptional presentation and communication prowess.
  • Skilled in collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Detail-oriented strategist capable of independent and visionary thinking.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • An engaged, flexible, and success-driven individual with a curious mind.
  • Experience with Salesforce is a plus.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related discipline

Position Type:Full-Time

Schedule and Hours:Daytime hours with some travel and off-hours availability
