Tax Specialist:

The primary purpose of the Tax Specialist is to ensure sales and use taxes relating to sales orders are invoiced and reported in a timely and accurate manner, in accordance with domestic and foreign tax regulations. Manages reporting of sales and use tax, business and occupation tax, property tax, and associated reconciliations. Supports financial reporting by confirming all tax liabilities and payments are properly reflected on the general ledger and assists with month end close activities.

What You'll Do:

  • Manages tax hold and release process, ensuring timely and accurate tax reporting on invoices to customers.

  • Oversees critical tax filing and reconciliation processes with third party tax vendor, Avalara.

  • Sets up new accounts in Avalara as it relates to tax exemption.

  • Review and approve tax exemption documents provided by customer and resolve any sales tax inquiries

  • Performing tax research

  • Works with state specific Department of Revenue to clarify tax exemption compliance and update internal records.

  • Owns customer experience in the event tax was incorrectly charged on customer invoices.

  • Participate in month end close activities

  • Gathers data for annual returns and property tax compliance; prepares workbooks and processing tax payments.

  • Support indirect tax auditors and address regulatory agency documentation requests

  • Actively participates in continuous improvement efforts for all accounting processes to drive efficiencies.

  • Performs other related duties as required or requested.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree from fully accredited four-year institution is required, concentration in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance preferred; Master's degree preferred.

  • 1-3 years of experience in a multi-state sales/use tax environment

  • Knowledge and experience working with MS Office Suite, with strong Excel skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey ideas and suggestions via multiple modes of communication

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

  • Demonstrates sound judgment and critical thinking

  • Demonstrates ability to resolve internal and external customer issues quickly and effectively

  • Previous sales/use tax audit experience a plus.

  • Proficiency in Avalara strongly preferred

  • Previous ERP experience a plus

  • Experience in the chemical distribution industry a plus

Where You'll Work:

This is a hybrid-based role based in our Bellevue, WA location

Pay & Benefits:

  • The salary range is $49,230- $73,840. This role is also eligible for incentive pay.

  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be motivated by a variety of factors including the candidate's meaningful experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.

  • Available employee benefits include health, vision, and dental. We also provide 401k matching for retirement and flexible time off.
