Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned correctional facility. They function within their legal scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization and practice setting. Work is performed under the direction of a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed health care team in providing safe and competent care to patients.
Major/Essential Functions
- Collects and documents patient data, observing and reporting changes in patient condition to support problem identification and care planning.
- Prepares and operates equipment and instruments necessary for patient examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Assists with or performs examinations, assessments, and procedures, ensuring accurate documentation of interventions in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Utilizes the EMR system to effectively communicate patient information, supporting clinical decision-making and enhancing patient care.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current healthcare practices, treatment methods, and clinical protocols.
- Supports patient flow by assisting with admissions, discharges and transfers.
- Continuously monitors patients' medical status, promptly reporting changes to supervising staff or healthcare providers.
- Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, representing the nursing perspective in patient care discussions.
- Administers or assists in the administration and documentation of medications in accordance with established protocols.
- Performs additional duties as assigned to support overall patient care and team operations.

In addition to the base position compensation, we offer shift differential pay for night and weekend shifts:
Licensed Vocational Nurse Differential:
- Day Shift Employees: Earn an extra $3.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.
- Night Shift Employees:
- Earn an extra $3.00 per hour for shifts worked Monday through Friday.
- Earn an extra $6.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.
Required Qualifications
- License/Certification: Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position.
- Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the first attempt.
- Current CPR certification.
- 5 years of experience as a licensed vocational nurse.
