Summary The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, hands on engineer with good people skills. They will work with small teams of manufacturing engineers and production technicians to characterize, document and improve production processes through the Novanta Growth System and integrate multiple technologies into successful new products. They will be self-starting and possess a strong desire to grow with others in the organization. This individual will be a key part of the Stage Gate Process to ensure that documented end point requirements, software, and customer-specific methods are transferred to manufacturing prior to production volume launch of new products.
Develop, implement, and maintain manufacturing, preventive maintenance and inspection methods. Evaluate current situation, recommend design changes and/or implement test or manufacturing process improvements (including preventative maintenance) to improve production quality and increase throughput. Design and implement tools, fixtures, methods, and procedures to ensure product consistency, and improve efficiency. Work to develop, deploy, and sustain lean manufacturing processes. Tasks include the implementation of Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Standard Work, Problem Solving and other lean concepts to create a robust culture of continuous improvement and manufacturing efficiency. Active participation in the Stage Gate Process to ensure that documented end point requirements, software, and customer-specific methods are transferred to manufacturing prior to production volume launch. Implementation of checkpoints that ensure compliance with documented requirements, and continuously improve quality in conjunction with product, design, and quality engineering. Effectively communicate with Production and Engineering personnel to ensure agreed upon actions are completed on time and satisfy expectations. Prioritize tasks and projects based on commitments and product schedules. Prepare quality reports for production. Perform failure mode analysis and implement corrective action for production and customer returns. Participate in DFM reviews, ECO reviews, and models builds; recommend manufacturability improvements. Assist in training manufacturing and inspection personnel as required. ISO 9000, ISO 13485: Institute the necessary documentation and controls to maintain certification to these standards. Act as technical liaison for supplier corrective action, production, materials, engineering, and production planning. Increase productivity by recommending alternative processes and tooling that meet design objectives. Adhering to company policies and procedures. Responsible for assuring safety in all areas of responsibility.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or similar experience. 2+ years Manufacturing Engineering experience or equivalent. Additional Desired Skills and Knowledge:
Training in lean manufacturing or exposure to lean concepts with a business that practices lean manufacturing. Knowledge of statistical process analysis and control (SPC) to reduce variability and improve yields. Familiarity with the tools used to design products (i.e. Solid Works, AutoCad, etc.) Experience designing tooling used in production environment. Experience programming with LabView Able to work from specifications, technical manuals, schematics, and verbal / written instructions. Good mechanical aptitude. Manual dexterity to demonstrate skills required to perform precision assembly. Experience with ERP systems, Oracle exp. a plus.
