Overview:

We are seeking a Health and Safety Professional who will develop, manage, provide consultation/mentoring, and evaluate the implementation of Industrial Hygiene (IH) related worker safety and health programs for the purpose of improving the integrationandeffectiveness of the Worker Safety and Health (WSH) Management System across the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). This position resides in the Industrial Hygiene Programs Team in the Health and Safety Technical Services Group of the Safety and Operations Services Division, at ORNL.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and program guidance for all the IH projects/programs managed.

  • Develop and maintain corporate and division level health and safety procedures.

  • Perform periodic surveillances and assessments to verify compliance, program implementation and effectiveness and evaluate work practices, controls, and corrective actions.

  • Provide technical support to ORNL management and/or other technical staff in the application of health and safety regulatory requirements, procedures and standards.

  • Provide professional health and safety support to all levelsofmanagement.

  • Support health and safety assessment activities in compliance with10CFR 851.

  • Interact closely with customers and support other team members in work planning and hazard assessment and control.

  • Maintain the highest level of ethical standards in support oftheLaboratory Agenda.

  • Monitor and control all aspects of the projects/programs, including schedules, milestones, and costs.

  • Act as lead, by obtaining resources and by participation, on lab-wide safety initiatives and programs in support of Safety and Operations Services Division (SOSD).

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in science, engineering, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene or relevant technical field, with a minimum of two years of health & safety experience.

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and other applicable industrial hygiene consensus standards.

  • Experience in a multi-discipline, multi-task and integrated/functional organizational environment.

  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CIH and/or CSP certifications

  • Experience with work control processes.

  • Experience working with personal computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience in field oversight/assessment of industrial hygiene performance and compliance withapplicable local,state, and federal safety & health standards and regulations.

  • Detailed knowledge of Integrated Safety Management and 10 CFR 851.

  • Previous health and safety experience in a DOE complex.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

Special Requirements:

  • Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.

  • Q or L clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
