Senior Payroll Specialist

Position Summary:

The Multi-State Union Payroll Specialist ensures accurate and timely payroll processing for union employees across multiple states. This role requires a strong understanding of union contracts, multi-state tax compliance, and reporting requirements. The specialist works closely with HR, finance, and union representatives to maintain payroll accuracy and resolve payroll-related issues.

Core Responsibilities:



  • Payroll Processing: Process weekly payroll for union/non- union employees across multiple states, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Multi-State Tax Compliance: Understands multi-state taxation, including state income tax, unemployment tax, and local tax withholding.
  • Deductions & Benefits: Ensure accurate calculation and processing of union dues, benefits, and wage garnishments.
  • Timekeeping & Audits: Verify and reconcile employee hours, overtime, and shift differentials in accordance with union agreements.
  • Payroll Reporting: Prepare and submit required payroll reports, tax filings, and union remittances.
  • Problem Resolution: Address and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee payroll inquiries, and compliance issues.
  • Collaboration: Work with HR, finance, and Payroll Manager to ensure payroll compliance and resolve employee concerns.


Qualifications:



  • Experience: 3-5 years of payroll processing experience, preferably with unionized and multi-state payroll.
  • Knowledge:


    • Multi-state payroll regulations and taxation
    • Union contracts and collective bargaining agreements
    • Payroll software
    • Wage and hour laws (FLSA, prevailing wage laws)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll software

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
