Michelin, the Worldwide leader in Tires, dedicated to enhancing mobility and sustainability by providing its clients with digital services, maps and guides to help enrich trips and travels and make them unique experiences-offers a rare opportunity to join its team of Michelin Guide Inspectors. The Michelin Guide Inspector anonymously inspects hotels and restaurants for the MICHELIN guides and determines their suitability for inclusion in our selections in North America (including Canada and global locations) and relevant classifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain 100% anonymity both individually and of team members
  • Perform inspection meals, lunch/dinner daily across assigned markets
  • Compose a detailed report of each meal, also including social media content
  • Organize up to 9 weekly meals, including up to three weeks of monthly travel (domestic & international) to assigned markets including booking plane/train tickets, hotels, car rentals and schedule all meal reservations, coordinating with other inspectors when necessary
  • Monitor a variety of media outlets (national/local news, blogs, social media, etc.) for restaurant openings, closings, chef movement and all other relevant information and maintain an up-to-date list of restaurant openings, organized by priority, within assigned markets
  • Coordinate with editorial team to proof-read and fact-check texts and all other Michelin Guide content
  • Responsibly manage all business expenses related to meal and travel expenditures

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in culinary, food studies, hotel management or equivalent degree.
  • 10+ years of experience in hotel, restaurant, or other relevant industry
  • Attention to detail, strong skills of observation, memory for cuisine
  • Natural sensory talent for tasting, analyzing food
  • This position requires flexible travel schedule along with regular evening work hours.
  • Integrity, discretion, and respect for requirement of anonymity
  • Extensive international knowledge of ingredients, culinary techniques, cuisines, and culinary fundamentals
  • Flexibility, ability to adjust to change easily and adapt to changing work environment; ability to problem solve effectively in unexpected circumstances; ability to work independently
  • Excellent writing skills and solid organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively and remotely; able to communicate effectively and express ideas with clarity
  • Excellent research skills; extensive familiarity with restaurant and food-related media
  • Must not have food allergies
  • Driver's license required; work in several markets requires driving

Additional Requirements:

  • U.S. - New York City area-based applicant
  • Proficiency in one or more additional languages, preferably Spanish, will be an asset.
  • Starting pay range of $90k-$100k
