Department Overview

Operations ensure the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response. A critical part of Operations is Vegetation Management. The Vegetation Management group implements inspection and tree work along electric transmission and distribution lines.

Position Summary

The Vegetation Management Intern will oversee Vegetation Management operations to ensure electric system safety, reliability and regulatory compliance with state and federal rules. The successful candidate will collaborate team members, contractors, and customers to monitor and manage vegetation near PG&E assets to contribute to system reliability and safety objectives.

Vegetation Management operations is looking for a talented summer intern to help support distribution inspection and tree work.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $20.33 to $26.02.

Responsibilities

  • Project management
  • Assist in vegetation inspection
  • Support tree contractors performing tree work
  • Support review of quality findings
  • Support constraints and permit requirements
  • Manage records to business processes

The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and/or support activities as described above working with a team of experienced Vegetation Management personnel. Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Vegetation Management organization through the work they will be performing.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Arboriculture or related environmental field at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship
  • Must have a valid driver's license or obtain one at least 30 days prior to start date.

Desired:

  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Forestry or arboriculture experience
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction

PG&E is unable to provide VISA sponsorship to students on an F-1, J-1 or other student visa for this position.
