Job Objective(s)

The Bus Driver provides safe, reliable transportation service for the facility. Bus driver supports various Campus Activities.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for safe, timely transportation of clients to and from the facility.
  • Responsible for safe, timely transportation to and from a scheduled field trip outing for residents.
  • Ability to plan routes for field trip destination.
  • Maintains bus systems prior to all field trip excursions.
  • Demonstrates professional and courteous conduct with all customers- residents, family members, visitors, physicians, co-workers, etc.
  • Is responsible for assisting supervisory staff with the practical orientation/training of the employees as assigned according to facility policy and procedure. Will display a positive and supportive attitude when assisting new employees.
  • Maintains CPR/ First Aid certifications.
  • Understands and adheres to DOT alcohol and controlled substances policy including pre-employment and random drug testing producing negative results.
  • Abides by all Minnesota traffic laws and practices safe and defensive driving techniques at all times.
  • Understands and complies with facility rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Excellent driving record.
  • Current commercial drivers license (CDL)-Class B.
  • Compliance with DOT requirements including drug testing.
  • Experience working with seniors.
  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to complete.

Physical Requirements (based on essential responsibilities)

Must be able to frequently perform tasks such as, but not limited to, those listed below:

  • Bend, squat to ground to pick up debris, adjust wheelchairs, walkers, etc.
  • Discriminate colors to read traffic lights and traffic signs.
  • Visual acuity of at least 20/40 in each eye, with or without corrective lenses.

Must be able to continuously perform tasks such as, but not limited to, those listed below:

  • Move, push, pull and/or lift objects weighing 10 - 25 pounds.
  • Use hands, arms and legs for pushing wheelchairs, safe assisted transfers of participants and simple grasping.
  • Perform tasks requiring actions of muscles or groups of muscles to walk, stoop, bend, lift and to carry objects.
  • Walk and/or stand and sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Speak clearly and make self understood in face-to-face interactions
  • See objects closely to read directions, instructions, perform documentation, identify traffic lights, signals, signs etc.
  • Hear normal sounds and voices with some background noise to receive verbal instructions, answer telephones, communicate with others, etc.

Environment

Works Indoors and Outdoors all four seasons.

Working Hours

Typically Monday through Friday with some evenings and weekends required. Work hours vary based on programs planned and adult day center participant transportation needs.
