Responsibilities
The position will have technical and supervisory responsibility for the Howmet Research Center Chemistry Laboratory. The Chemistry Laboratory performs analytical composition analysis for Howmet production facilities worldwide. This position is located in Whitehall, MI Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervision and qualification of personnel
- Maintenance of laboratory procedures
- Review and approval of test samples
- Maintenance of relevant aspects of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Specification and qualification of analytical equipment
- Participation in standards bodies, such as ASTM
- Participation in customer, 3rd party and internal audits
- Customer and 3rd party specification review
- Ownership of internal round robin testing programs

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
- BS degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering
- Three (3) years of experience performing analytical composition analysis of metallic and ceramic materials.
- Three (3)) years of experience working under an aerospace quality management system.
- Three (3) years working in a production laboratory or in a manufacturing environment.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience using a Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Experience using ASTM test methods.
- Experience with 3rd party accreditations, such as AS9100, Nadcap and ISO17025.
- Experience performing tests using methods such as ICP, ICPMS, GDMS, AES, XRF, and combustion/fusion methods for testing of metals.
- Experience testing Ni-, Fe-, Co-, Ti-, and Al-based alloys.
- Three (3) years' experience in working in a materials testing laboratory
